Cedar
Mattapoisett, MA
Cedar is a small coastal home with a long history and a very careful reconstruction behind it.
The original house had fallen into rough condition and, because of its proximity to the road and existing setback constraints, could not simply be torn down and replaced. North Eastern Trade Services rebuilt it one wall at a time, ultimately reframing the entire structure while preserving the scale and character of the original home.
Old photographs became an important reference throughout the project. Exterior trim and architectural details were recreated to closely match the house as it had appeared years earlier, allowing the finished home to feel familiar rather than newly invented.
At the same time, subtle changes made the house more functional. The roofline was raised slightly to create additional headroom upstairs, a rear dormer added space for a second-floor bedroom and bath, and a rear addition increased the overall living area.
The result is a fully rebuilt home that still looks as though it has been part of the neighborhood for generations.
